Myofascial Meridians

fascia Aug 08, 2024

There a 12 myofascial meridians in the body with consistent, longitudinal fiber direction within a singular fascial webbing.  These meridians contain at least three muscles and sometimes span the entire length of the body.  Identifying and working the fascia lines within the meridians is a key way to help heal the fascia.

Superficial back and front line:

You can see in the above picture that the back fascia line is completely connected from the bottoms of the feet, back of the legs, all the way up the center of the back to the top of the head.  Simply working the fascia in the bottoms of the feet will carry through the fascia web to the base of the skull through this line.  Similarly with the front line.  See the connections?  Any adhesion within the fascial line will affect the transmission of force and energy throughout that line, impacting your ability to move correctly.

Spiral line front and back view:

The fascia crisscrosses in the body.  Pain in the left shoulder could be caused by damaged fascia in the right hip.  See the connection?

Arm lines:

Chronic tension headaches may be caused by adhesions in the pectoral minors in the chest.  These adhesions could be pulling your shoulders forward causing tension in the back of the neck, leading to pain.

Functional lines:

Chronic lumbar back pain may be due to adhesions in the hips, hamstrings, latissimus dorsa, or even the rectus abdominis muscles.

Deep front line:

Now try to envision the fascia lines during movement.  Look at all the connections.

Without the fascia, you'd just be a pile of bones and tissues on the floor.  Healthy fascia allows you to move freely, like you were born to do.  Fascia that becomes damaged or dehydrated leads to restricted movement which then lead to chronic pain.
