Aug 03, 2023I'm betting you have bunions or know someone that does...
There are more than 3 million new cases of bunions diagnosed every year. A bunion is a bony projection on the joint at the base of the big toe or little toe. It grows gradually and your toe will turn inwards over time.
Bunions have a genetic predisposition in some people. But, they can also be caused by structural abnormalities, injuries to the foot, wearing narrow or tight fitting shoes, wearing high heels, arthritis, or stress on the foot. Bunions can grow larger over time causing significant pain and discomfort, sometimes requiring surgery.
So what can you do about them?
It's your luck day. I have many tips for you. Back in the day when I was still dancing as a ballerina, I had a bunion. I ended up having surgery to have it removed, but that was before I knew what I know now. I may have been able to prevent surgery all together. I'm going to share with you some of my secrets.
Secret #1
Tape your feet. I LOVE KT Tape. KT Tape is kinesio tape that has stretch to it. I put together a little video on how to tape your feet. Take a moment to watch it. I talk about plantar fasciitis in the video, but the way you tape your foot will also help to minimize your bunions.

Secret #2
Use toe spacers. This may be a little weird in the beginning, until you get used to them. Theoretically, you can wear them through out the day, but if you do not have shoes that these spacers can fit into, this may be a little uncomfortable. I recommend wearing them in the evening or at night when you go to bed. Sleep in them. As you can see, they realign the joints alleviating the pressure on the toe joint eliminating pain. I wore toe spacers inside my pointe shoes when I was still dancing. It made a world of difference.
Secret #3
Use the bunion reducer in the MELT Method hand and foot treatment kit. This is a special little rubber band that you put around your big toes to realign them. I made another little video showing you how to do this and a few exercises to help strengthen your foot and big toe joints. This joint is very important in the functionality of your foot and how to correctly walk. Take a moment to watch it.
