Give yourself a hand
Aug 15, 2024
In my own journey to healing and living a pain free life, I had a setback a little over a year ago. As I was walking into the hospital to work my shift, I took a step and rolled my ankle, spraining it. This was not unusual for me, meaning I've done this many times before. But this time as I fell to the ground...I dislocated my elbow.
This is a kind of pain I would not want to wish on anyone. HOLY COW!
The elbow, being a very small, tight joint, is held together by ligaments and tendons. Of course, with the complete dislocation, all of these tissues were torn. Remarkably, surgery is not needed and when the joint is relocated, the body can heal those tendons and ligaments on it's own...it just takes time.
Being the proactive person that I am, I began my healing process and gave my body and fascia what it needed to speed this process up.
My secrets to a speed recovery are as follows:
- Doterra essential oils for all discomfort I had
- Range of motions exercises
- And most importantly, adhesion removal in my fascia to prevent the joints and tissues from "freezing"
I began the fascia work the day of my injury, focusing on the areas above and below my elbow, and the areas that were not bruised. You don't want to work directly on the areas of the injury. Go around it.
Performing the hand treatment by squeezing the soft ball and rolling the tissues on my arm that weren't bruised all the way up to my shoulder. I also started very gentle range of motion exercises after about 10 days working to bend my elbow and straighten it.
Before I started physical therapy 22 days later, I had complete range of motion back with complete elbow flexion and extension.
On my first day of physical therapy, they took measurements of my range of motion. He was dumbfounded!
PT: "How long ago did you dislocate your elbow?"
Me: "22 days ago"
PT: "What have you been doing?"
Me: "Fascia work"
PT: "Oh wow! Keep that up!"
Me: "Why?"
PT: "You are doing it right. I've never seen anyone with this fast a recovery after a complete elbow dislocation. You have complete 180 degree extension and complete flexion."
Me: Happy dance!
CLEARLY this stuff works!!!!
It took about 10 months to have complete recovery as it takes awhile for the tendons and ligaments to completely heal. It just felt like a tendonitis. The fascia work, when done consistently will heal those issues.
